The Washington Capitals hit the road on New Year's Day and played against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. The Capitals won over the Penguins 3-1.
This is the second Winter Classic for the Penguins and the first for the Capitals. The game was originally scheduled for 1:00PM ET, before the NHL pushed back the start due to rain.
