After 30 days and 30 nights of world-class soccer action, the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa has finally come to its close on Sunday, July 11. A spectacular and star-studded closing ceremony at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg amazed football fans around the world before the final match between Spain and Netherlands.
Colombian singer Shakira, in silk-fringed skirt covered in pink flowers and ethnic prints and a separate top embroidered with multi-colored pearls, performed the official tournament anthem "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" as 700 million viewers tuned in to their televisions for the finals. Spain won a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands after extra time and lifted their first-ever World Cup trophy.
Former South African president Nelson Mandela and his wife Grace Machel crowned the World Cup Sunday with a brief appearance on the field at the closing ceremony.
